Lesson 14. Creating Rollover Web Visuals > Creating remote rollovers

Creating remote rollovers

A remote rollover is the association of one slice with another one so that an action in one slice affects the visibility or effects in the other slice. In this exercise, you will create a remote rollover in which an effect occurs on one part of the screen (in the center image) when the Web site visitor rolls the mouse over a different part of the screen (over the Exhibits slice). In preparation for creating that rollover, you will first create the slice that will appear in the center of the screen when the mouse action occurs.

1.
In the Layers palette, select the Exhibit_info layer in the Info Panels layer set, and then click its visibility box. An eye icon () appears in the Layers palette, and the layer becomes visible in the image window. The layer contains a graphic that says “Spanish Masters” and provides the dates of the exhibit.

You will create a slice of that graphic from a selection.

2.
Choose Select > Load Selection > Exhibit_info Transparency.

An animated selection border appears around the layer contents.

3.
Choose Select > Create Slice from Selection.

A solid yellow border indicates that the layer is now also a slice, but the selection border is also visible.

4.
Choose Select > Deselect, or press Ctrl-D (Windows) or Command-D (Mac OS).

5.
In the Web Content palette, notice the appearance of your new slice, which was given a sequential number by default.

6.
Double-click the new slice name, type Exhibit Info, and press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac OS) to rename it.

7.
In the Web Content palette, select Normal, and then click the eye icon () next to the Exhibit_info layer in the Layers palette to hide it.
