Getting photos

The Organizer component of Photoshop Elements 3.0 gives you a gathering place where you can efficiently organize, sort, and even do basic editing of your pictures. When you want to print your photographs or send them in e-mail, having the images collected in the Organizer is an essential step in the process, as you’ll see later in this lesson.

Creating a new catalog

You organize your photographs in catalogs, which manage the image files on your computer but are independent of the photo files themselves. You can include video and audio files along with digital photographs and scans in your catalogs. A single catalog can efficiently handle thousands of photos, but you can also create separate catalogs for different types of work, to keep them separate. You’ll do that now so that you won’t confuse the practice files for this book with your own photographs and files.
