Correct the lighting

Correct for backlighting. Often you may take a picture where the foreground is dark and the background is perfectly exposed. The subject could be in front of a window, a sunset, or some other light source. The ideal way to avoid this problem is use an on-camera flash. Even so, some of your photos will have backlighting problems. Fortunately, Photoshop Elements provides a feature that easily remedies the problem.

To correct lighting problems, choose Enhance > Adjust Lighting > Shadows/Highlights. Make sure that the Preview box is checked; then use the sliders to adjust the shadows, highlights, and contrast until you are satisfied with the results.
