Chapter 1. The Basics > Browsing, Opening, and Closing Files

Browsing, Opening, and Closing Files

Before you can do any image editing in Photoshop Elements, you need to find and open your photo files. The File Browser offers you a convenient and intuitive method of locating your photos. From within the File Browser, you can easily search, sort, and preview all of your images. You can also change the size of the image previews, sort and rename files, and even rotate the actual image files via the File Browser thumbnails.

The File Browser offers an easy way to browse and open files. However, you can also open files using the Open command on the File menu, or use the Open file shortcut on the shortcuts bar. Using either of these two Open options will grant you access to the Open dialog box. The Open dialog box includes features for limiting your search to specific file formats, and displaying an image preview.
