Organizing by Date and Time

The most natural and automatic way to organize your photos is by the date and time you took them. Digital cameras store the date and time within the image file. (For simplicity, I'll refer to “date,” but in all cases this means “date and time.”) The capture date in the file is independent of the file-system date (when the file was last modified), so it's preserved even if you edit the photo.

Make sure the date and time on your camera are set correctly—that's all you have to do (aside from importing your photos into the Organizer) for Elements to automatically organize all your digital camera photos by date. As long as you can remember approximately when a photo was taken, you'll be able to find it easily.
