Managing Multiple Versions

When you have multiple versions of photos, it's important to understand how your changes are saved, how to protect your original files, and how to go back to an earlier version if you want.

Protecting Your Original Files

Your original photo files, as they came from your camera or scanner, are your “negatives”—the master copies of your photos. Anytime you edit a file and save it using the same name, overwriting the original, you lose some of the original information in the photo. Depending on the file format, the quality setting, and the changes you made, the loss may be insignificant or it may be drastic.
