Chapter 5. Fixing Your Photos > Rotating Photos

Rotating Photos

If you have a new digital camera, you may never need to rotate photos manually. Most new cameras have position sensors built in, so the camera knows when you've rotated it and includes this information in the image file. Elements reads this information and rotates the photo automatically for display. If your camera doesn't sense rotation automatically, your portrait-oriented photos will be sideways when you import them into Elements, and you'll have to rotate them manually.

You can rotate any number of photos at a time with a single action: Select the photo(s) in the Photo Browser and click the appropriate rotate button (for clockwise or counterclockwise rotation, depending on which way you turned the camera) at the bottom of the Photo Browser (Figure 5.1). Alternatively, you can right-click a photo and choose Rotate 90° Left or Rotate 90° Right.
