Screen Settings: What Overrides What?

When you send a grayscale or color bitmapped image to a PostScript printer, the computer inside the printer converts the image into a halftone. That means that the printer sets the halftone screen frequency, angle, and spot shape. However, there are plenty of times when you want to override the printer's default settings to use your own halftone screening information. Fortunately, most programs give you some help in doing this, and Photoshop gives you a lot of help.

Figure 17-5 shows, in brief, the order in which screening controls override each other. Let's look at each of them in order.
