Color-Correction Tools

For color correction, we rely heavily on the same four tools that we use for grayscale correction—the Histogram and Info palettes, and the Levels and Curves dialog boxes (and the eyedropper tools they contain). They operate in the same way as they do in grayscale, but their effects are sometimes significantly different because we're dealing with three or four channels instead of one.

With Levels, Curves, and the Histogram palette, you can operate on the color channels individually or on a composite of them all. The Info palette shows what's happening in each of the channels, and warns you when RGB colors are outside the CMYK gamut. We also use the Proof Colors command for a visual check of our predicted CMYK (or RGB output) values while we're still working in an RGB working space.
