Chapter 3. Organizing Photos > Setting Display Preferences

Setting Display Preferences

Along with the interactive methods (mentioned on the previous page) that iPhoto provides for changing the layout of the display pane, you can set options in iPhoto’s Preferences window that affect the way the display pane looks.

Ways to change display preferences:

  • From the iPhoto application menu, choose Preferences () to open the Preferences window (Figure 3.6).

Figure 3.6. From the iPhoto application menu, choose Preferences to open the Preferences window, where you can change appearance styles and choose if you want your images to align to a grid.

Choose among Drop Shadow, Border, and No Border by clicking the appropriate radio button. To change the darkness of the background, adjust the Background slider. The screen shots on the previous page use the drop shadow style with a white background; compare that to a border style with a dark background (Figure 3.7).

Figure 3.7. Here’s how the display pane appears when I use a border style with a black background—it’s a significantly different look.

  • To align all your photos to a regular grid in which the width of the widest picture sets the width for all photos, check the “Align to grid” checkbox.
