Getting Started

You’ve already had a brief introduction to the File Browser in Lesson 1, “Getting to Know the Work Area.” If you’ve completed that lesson, you know that the permanent File Browser button () on the Photoshop tool options bar opens, closes, or brings the File Browser forward. In this lesson, you’ll explore the File Browser in greater depth. The aim of the first project for the lesson is to organize and annotate a motley collection of photographs.

The File Browser shares some functionality with your desktop regarding files and folders. The changes you apply to files in the File Browser change the files themselves, not merely the File Browser view of them. At the end of the lesson, you’ll experience how easy it can be to find specific images on your computer. Unlike other Photoshop palettes, the updated File Browser has a menu bar instead of a palette menu.
