Rollovers

Now that you understand something about slices, you’re ready to create another kind of hotspot: a rollover. A rollover is a screen event that occurs when the mouse is moved over or clicks on an area of a Web page that has a built-in modification. Rollovers are like the voice of a Web page, causing a visual change in the dynamic parts of a page, and they make Web pages more entertaining. Three basic types of rollovers can be created:

  • A change in an image area (e.g., a color changes, a layer effect appears)

The image changes (in this case, a Drop Shadow layer effect appears).

  • The substitution of one image for another

A new image is substituted for the current image.

  • Text or a secondary graphic that appears in another area of the browser window (when the mouse is over a button, keyword, or icon)

Secondary text (or an image) appears in another area of the image.
