Chapter 3. Startup > Saving files

Saving files

You’ll find specific instructions for saving in the EPS, DCS, PICT, and TIFF file formats in Chapter 22, and information about the GIF and JPEG formats in Chapter 23.

To save a new image:

1.
Choose File > Save (Ctrl-S/Cmd-S).

2.
Type a name in the File name (Win) / Save As (Mac OS) field.

Windows: Save As dialog box

Mac OS: Save As dialog box

3.
Choose a location for the file.

Windows: To locate another folder or drive, click the drop-down menu at the top of the dialog box.

Mac OS X: To locate a drive, scroll as far left as possible in the browser window, then click a drive. (OS 9: Choose from the pointing-hand menu.) Double-click a folder to save the file in, or click New Folder to create a new folder.

4.
Choose a file format from the Save As (Win)/Format (Mac OS) pop-up menu. Only the native Photoshop, TIFF, and Photoshop PDF formats can save files that contain multiple layers.

5.
Check any options in the Save area of the dialog box (except the As a Copy option, which is discussed on page 73). You can also check Color: Embed Color Profile... if the file contains an embedded profile and the format you are saving to supports embedded profiles (see page 48).

6.
Click Save.
