Chapter 22. Print > Preparing files for other applications

Preparing files for other applications

Photoshop to QuarkXPress

To color-separate a Photoshop image in QuarkXPress, you can convert it to CMYK Color mode before importing it into QuarkXPress. Different imagesetters require different formats, so ask your prepress house whether to save your image in the TIFF (see pages 424–425) or EPS file format (see pages 421–422) or in either of the two DCS formats (see page 423). QuarkXPress can also convert an RGB TIFF into a CMYK TIFF. Ask your prepress house which program to use for the conversion.

Photoshop to InDesign

InDesign can separate Photoshop PDFs (RGB or CMYK), and it can import PSD files directly. It can also read any ICC profile embedded in a Photoshop file.
