Chapter 18. Filters

Chapter 18. Filters

Photoshop’s filters are used to produce myriad special effects, from slight sharpening to wild distortion. For example, you could apply the Sharpen or Blur filter for subtle retouching; apply the Lighting Effects filter to apply illumination; apply one or more of the filters on the Artistic, Brush Strokes, Sketch, or Texture submenu to make your image look handrendered; or for a very dramatic change, apply one of the filters on the Stylize or Distort submenu.

This chapter has three components: techniques for applying filters; an illustrated compendium of all the Photoshop filters; and lastly, a handful of step-by-step exercises that utilize filters, including the new Pattern Maker.
