Adjustment commands

Next we’ll show you how to use the individual commands on the Image > Adjustments submenu. They can be applied to a layer directly or via an adjustment layer. Try applying the adjustment commands to a grayscale image first to learn how they work, then use them on color images.

We’ll begin with the simple, one-step Auto Contrast command, which turns the almostlightest pixels in an image white and the almost-darkest pixels black, and then redistributes the gray levels in-between.
