Chapter 9. Adjustments

Chapter 9. Adjustments

This chapter covers many methods for adjusting an image’s light and dark values. Using commands on the Image > Adjustments submenu , you can make simple adjustments, like Invert a layer to make it look like a film negative, or Posterize it to restrict its luminosity levels to a specified number. Or you can make more precise lightness or contrast adjustments to a layer’s highlights, midtones, or shadows using such features as Levels or Curves. You can also darken smaller areas by hand using the Burn tool, or lighten areas using the Dodge tool.
