Chapter 1. The Basics > Using the Options and Shortcuts Bars

Using the Options and Shortcuts Bars

Think of the options bar as a natural extension of the toolbox. After you select a tool, you can adjust any of its settings using the options bar. The buttons on the options bar change depending on what tool is selected, so if you’re using the Paintbrush tool, for example, you can use the options bar to choose different brush sizes and saturation and opacity settings.

The shortcuts bar gives you easy access to some of the most frequently used menu commands. Instead of navigating through the File menu to open, save, and preview your image, you can accomplish the same tasks with an easy click on the shortcuts bar. A couple of the handiest shortcuts are the two little arrows that allow you to undo each change you’ve made to an image or restore a change if you change your mind.
