Chapter 1. The Basics > Browsing, Opening, and Closing Files

Browsing, Opening, and Closing Files

Before you can do any image editing in Photoshop Elements, you need to find and open your photo files. The File Browser offers you a convenient and intuitive method of finding them. From here, you can easily search, sort, and preview all of your images. You can also change the size of your image previews, sort your files, and even rotate the image thumbnails.

The File Browser offers the easiest way to browse and open files. However, you can also open files using the File > Open command from the main menu bar or the Open file shortcut on the shortcuts bar. In these cases, you’ll end up using the Open dialog box to find and open your image. The dialog box includes options for limiting your search to specific file formats, showing or hiding a preview of the image, and finding a file by typing the file name.
