Chapter 6. WORKING WITH OBJECTS > Working with Layers

Working with Layers

As you add more objects to your documents, you may want to take advantage of the Fireworks Layers panel. This panel lets you show and hide objects on each of the layers, lock the layers from changes, and change the order in which objects appear.

To work with the Layers panel:

1.
Open the Layers panel by choosing Window > Layers 56. The two default layers, Layer 1 and Web Layer, appear in the panel.

Tip

The Web Layer holds objects used to add Web addresses to images and to slice them for exporting. (For more information on working with Web addresses and HTML information in Fireworks, see Chapter 17, "Hotspots and Links" and Chapter 18, "Slices.")

2.
To make all the objects on a layer invisible, click the Show/Hide icon for that layer.

Tip

To make all the layers invisible, hold the Opt/Alt key as you click the Show/Hide icon for any layer.

3.
To prevent any objects on a layer from being selected, click the space in the lock area. A Padlock icon appears indicating the layer is locked.

Tip

Click the layer's padlock icon to unlock the layer.

4.
Click the name of a layer to make that layer the active layer. New objects are automatically created on that layer.

5.
Drag the name of a layer up or down to a new position in the panel to move that layer to a new position 57.
