Chapter 18. SLICES > Using Ruler Guides to Slice

Using Ruler Guides to Slice

If you're in a hurry, and don't need to set any different optimization settings, the easiest way to slice an image is to use ruler guides.

To slice using ruler guides:

1.
Drag a guide from a ruler around the side of the area you want to slice (see pages 38–39).

2.
Drag additional guides until you have defined all the slices for the image 1.

Figure 1. Ruler guides can be used to define slices.

3.
When you export the file, set the Slicing to Slice Along Guides (see Chapter 20, "Exporting.")

Tip

Fireworks opens Adobe Photoshop files with the Photoshop guides in place. They can then be used as ordinary slices in Fireworks.

Tip

Use hotspot objects (see Chapter 17, "Hotspots and Links") to add links to slices created by guides.
