Chapter 18. SLICES

Why would anyone spend hours creating an intricate Web graphic and then cut it up into different pieces? Well, the technique is called slicing and it allows you to define regions of an image that you can set to behave differently.

For instance, you might want to slice an image so that each slice has its own optimization settings depending on the type of artwork. You might want to slice an image into sections so that you can easily update new products or news stories. You can also slice an image so that it contains plain HTML text rather than an image.

Macromedia Fireworks makes it easy to control where to put the slices and to apply special attributes to each slice region.
