Chapter 5. SELECTING PATHS > Selecting Objects Behind Objects

Selecting Objects Behind Objects

Because transparency often figures into creating Fireworks graphics, you may find that your artwork consists of many objects stacked on top of each other. This can sometimes make it difficult to select an object behind the rest. The Select Behind tool makes it easy to select through other objects to one at the back.

To use the Select Behind tool:

1.
Press the pop-up group for the Pointer tool to choose the Select Behind tool 7.

2.
Click with the Select Behind tool over the objects you want to select. The first click selects the object on top of the others.

3.
Click as many times as necessary to select the object you want 8.

Figure 8. The Select Behind tool was used to select the star behind the other two objects. The first click selected the square. The second click selected the circle. The third click selected the star.

Tip

Hold the Shift key as you click to add each object to the selection. (In case you were wondering, no — you can't use the Select Behind tool to deselect behind.)
