Chapter 5. SELECTING PATHS > Selecting Points

Selecting Points

Instead of selecting an entire object, you can also select individual points. You can then manipulate or delete them to change the shape of the path. The Subselection tool is used to select individual anchor points.

To use the Subselection tool:

1.
Click the Subselection tool in the Toolbox 4.

Figure 4. The Subselection tool in the Toolbox.

2.
Click the object to select it. The anchor points will be displayed but not selected 5.

Figure 5. The Subselection tool allows you to see the anchor points and handles of a selected object. Click to select the specific points.

Tip

The Pen tool options determine the appearance of selected and unselected points (see page 68).

3.
Click a specific point or marquee—drag to select multiple points. The anchor points of the object are selected.

4.
Hold the Shift key and click to select additional points 5.

5.
Use the Subselection tool to move the selected points 6.

Figure 6. Drag with the Subselection tool to change the position of anchor points.

Tip

If you switch from the Pointer tool to the Subselection tool while an object is already selected, you see the unselected anchor points for that object.
