Chapter 5. SELECTING PATHS

Chapter 5. SELECTING PATHS

When I was young, we didn't have personal computers. (Hey, that doesn't make me that old!) However, instead of computer graphics, we had other types of arts and graphics. Yes, there were arts and graphics before computers. One of my favorites was nail-and-string art.

You started with a plywood rectangle and spent the entire morning hammering thin nails into the wood in a grid pattern. This was the noisy part. After lunch, you took colored strings and wrapped them around the nails to create shapes—a much quieter activity.

That's why I enjoy working with the vector paths in Macromedia Fireworks. The anchor points are like the nails and the paths are the string.

Unlike the nails of my old art projects, Fireworks anchor point are much more flexible. This chapter shows that instead of pulling at each nail, you use Fireworks's selection tools to select and move anchor points and objects.
