Chapter 4. PATH TOOLS > Modifying Paths

Modifying Paths

Once you have created a path — with any of the drawing tools — you can modify its shape. Fireworks has several different ways you can modify paths. The Redraw Path tool is like the Brush tool except that, instead of just drawing paths, it modifies paths that it comes near to.

Tip

The Redraw Path tool displays the Brush-Size Painting cursors or the the tool cursor depending on the Editing Preferences (see page 25).

Tip

Rectangles, ellipses, and polygons must be ungrouped (see pages 82–83) before they can be modified.

To use the Redraw Path tool to modify a path:

1.
Select a path.

Tip

Paths are automatically selected after you finish drawing them. You can also select paths using any of the selection tools. (See Chapter 5, "Selecting Paths.")

2.
Press the triangle pop-up group in the Tools panel to choose the Redraw Path tool 34.

Tip

Although similar to the Brush tool icon, the Redraw Path tool shows a Paintbrush pulling at a line.

3.
Move the tool to the part of the path that you want to redraw.

Tip

If you have the tool cursor visible, a small triangle sign appears next to the Redraw Path cursor 35. This indicates that the path will be redrawn.

4.
Drag to create the new shape of the path. A red line appears that indicates the part of the path that is modified 36.

Figure 36. A red line (circled) shows the original path as the Redraw Path tool creates the new path.

5.
Release the mouse to redraw the path.

Tip

You can also modify the shape of a path by manipulating the anchor points and control handles of the path.
