Chapter 15. OPTIMIZING > Creating Selective JPEG Files

Creating Selective JPEG Files

Another way to improve the look of a JPEG image is to create a Selective JPEG. This allows you to have a low quality for certain parts of the image and a higher quality for areas that you want to look good. For example, you can set a high quality around someone's face but use a low quality for the background.

Creating a Selective JPEG is a two step process. First you mask the part of the image you want to maintain at high quality, then you set the amount of compression to apply to that area.
