Chapter 17. HOTSPOTS AND LINKS

Imagine you are creating a magical machine that transports people all over the world. How would you design the controls? One way might be to start with a map of the world. Your users would simply touch a certain part of the map and they would be instantly transported to where they wanted to go.

That's the idea behind image maps for Web graphics. You embed different areas of an image with information that sends the viewer to different Web pages or performs a certain action. All the viewer needs to do is click inside each area of the image and they are transported to a new Web page.

The special areas on the image are created using the Fireworks hotspot tools. The information that sends you to a new Web page or performs the action is called a link.
