Chapter 9. EFFECTS > Using the Convert to Alpha Effect

Using the Convert to Alpha Effect

The Convert to Alpha effect converts an object or image into a grayscale or alpha channel version. This lets you create see-through effects based on the colors of an image.

To apply the Convert to Alpha effect:

  • Choose Convert to Alpha from the Other menu of the Effect pop-up list. The image is converted and the name of the effect appears in the Effect panel 30.

Figure 30. The results of applying the Convert to Alpha effect.

    Tip

Alpha areas that are white allow the images underneath to be seen. Alpha areas that are dark hide the images underneath.

    Tip

The Convert to Alpha effect is very similar to masking using the grayscale values of an image.
