Using Styles

Styles are simply a way to store all the information about the fill, stroke, effect, or text settings. You can then easily apply the style to other objects without applying all the settings one by one. The Styles panel comes with an assortment of object and text styles that you can use. There are still more styles located on the Fireworks CD. However, most likely you will want to define your own styles.

To define an object style:

1.
Open the Styles panel by choosing Window > Styles 2.

Figure 2. The Styles panel stores previews of the styles. These styles all come preset with Fireworks.

2.
Select an object and use the Fill, Stroke, and Effect panels to give the object any look you want.

3.
With the object selected, click the New Style button at the bottom of the Styles panel. The Edit Style dialog box appears 3.

Figure 3. The Edit Style dialog box lets you name the style and select which properties are included as part of the style.

4.
Name the style.

5.
Check the boxes for the properties you want the style to control.

  • Fill Type controls a pattern, gradient, or Web dither.

  • Fill Color controls the color of a fill.

  • Effect controls the effect.

  • Stroke Type controls the size and type of stroke.

  • Stroke Color controls the color of a stroke.

6.
Click OK to store the style in the Styles panel.

Tip

The preview in the Styles panel is always a square, regardless of the shape that was used to define the style.
