Digital Cameras

Digital cameras, like scanners, come in all shapes and sizes. It's unlikely that digital cameras will replace film anytime soon, but in some niche markets they can offer compelling advantages—in some cases more than economic. Our friend Stephen Johnson has shown us comparisons of images from the BetterLight digital camera back (a capture device that attaches to the back of a view camera) with 4-by-5 film that show the digital camera clearly outresolves the film in both spatial detail and dynamic range (but only at the cost of exposure times measured in minutes).
