The Slice Tool

Photoshop's Slice tool (just below the Magic Wand tool in Photoshop 6.0) allows you to slice your image into rectangular areas that will each get special treatment when you save your image. To create a slice, just grab the Slice tool and click and drag across your image. There are two types of slices: user slices and auto slices. A user slice is one that you've made; it appears with a blue background behind the slice number. Auto slices are the ones that are necessary to complete the rest of the image (and there fore filled in automatically), and appear with a gray background behind the slice number, as shown in Figure 16.1.
