Chapter 2. Selection Primer > The Select Menu

The Select Menu

The Select menu offers you many choices that supplement the basic selection tools. Learning these features is well worth your time, because they'll help you save heaps of it in your everyday work. We'll look at these features in the same order they appear in the menu; then, later in this chapter, I'll show you how to replace many of these commands with an alternative that allows you to think visually instead of numerically.

Select All

Select > All selects the entire document. This can be useful when you need to trim off any “big data,” or the part of an image that extends beyond the edge of the document (Figure 2.50). You can crop big data by choosing Select > All and then Image > Crop (Figure 2.51). Also, if you need to copy an entire image, you'll need to select everything, because without a selection, the Copy command will be grayed out.
