Grouping Layers

When you group multiple layers together, all the layers within the group will be visible only where there is information in the bottommost layer of the group (see Figures 11.1 and 11.2). When you group layers, Photoshop always groups the currently active layer to the one below it. You can group layers together by using any of the following techniques:

  • Option-click (Macintosh) or Alt-click (Windows) between two layers in the Layers palette.

  • Choose Layer > Group With Previous.

  • Type Command-G (Macintosh) or Ctrl-G (Windows).
