Chapter 21. PREFERENCES > Display & Cursors Preferences

Display & Cursors Preferences

1.
Check Color Channels in Color to display individual RGB or CMYK channels in color on the Channels palette in the image window. Otherwise, channels will display as grayscale.

2.
Check Use Diffusion Dither, when using a monitor set to 8-bit color, to have Photoshop use a dithering method to improve color simulation.

3.
Check Use Pixel Doubling to speed up preview redraws by showing a low res preview first. This doesn't affect actual pixels—it's just for redrawing.

4.
For the Painting Cursors (Gradient, Line, Eraser, Pencil, Air brush, Paint brush, Rubber Stamp, Pattern Stamp, Smudge, Blur, Sharpen, Dodge, Burn, and Sponge tools) click Standard to see the icon of the tool being used, or click Precise to see a crosshair icon, or click Brush Size to see a round icon the exact size of the brush tip (up to 999 pixels).

5.
For the non-painting tools (Marquee, Lasso, Polygon Lasso, Magic Wand, Crop, Eyedropper, Pen, Gradient, Line, Paint Bucket, Magnetic Lasso, Magnetic Pen, Measure, and Color Sampler), click Other Cursors: Standard or Precise.

Tip

Depending on the current Preferences setting, depressing the Caps Lock key will turn Standard cursors to Precise, Precise to Brush Size, or Brush Size to Precise.
