Chapter 16. PATHS/SHAPES > Layer clipping paths

Layer clipping paths

A layer clipping path works like a layer mask, except the clipping path uses a vector path shape to delineate what is visible and what is masked in the current layer. The path can be created using the Pen tool, Freeform Pen tool, or a shape tool, or from a selection that is converted to a path. The layer clipping path produces a clean, sharp-edge shape that hides pixels on a layer. You can modify the path shape or discard the clipping path at any time.
