Chapter 13. GRADIENTS

Chapter 13. GRADIENTS

A GRADIENT IS A GRADUAL blend between two or more colors. Photoshop 6 offers two ways to apply a gradient. One way is to use the Gradient tool to apply a gradient directly to a content layer (note the tool's new location on the Toolbox). The Gradient tool would be the way to go if you want to custom fit a gradient by hand in a particular area or fill a layer mask (for any fill or adjustment layer) with a gradient for a gradual masking effect.

A second option is to use the new gradient fill layer feature to apply a gradient that appears in its own layer, with a layer mask that can be used to mask gradient layer pixels. This latter type of gradient is easier to edit.
