Chapter 18. FILTERS

Chapter 18. FILTERS

PHOTOSHOP'S FILTERS can be used to produce a myriad of special effects, from slight sharpening to wild distortion. For example, a filter like Blur or Sharpen could be used for subtle retouching; the Color Halftone, Find Edges, Emboss, or Wind filter for more dramatic stylization; the Artistic, Brush Strokes, Sketch, or Texture filter to make imagery look hand-rendered; or the Lighting Effects filter to apply illumination.

This chapter has three components: techniques for applying filters; an illustrated compendium of all the Photoshop filters; and lastly, a handful of step-by-step exercises for using filters.

Filters are grouped into thirteen submenu categories under the Filter menu . Third-party filters appear on their own submenus. (To install third-party filters, see Adobe Photoshop online Help.)
