Defining Patterns

Creating Repeating Background Patterns

A background image does just that: It sits in the background as your other images load over it. Background images are tiled, which means that whatever you put in as an image will repeat itself across the page. A background image can be used to create a watermark, add some color and shape, or create a solid shape of color on a navigation bar. If you use a small image, it will repeat (see Figure 9-6).
