Image Maps

An image map allows you to designate a portion of an image to be a hyperlink. This is even easier to create than a rollover. Let's make the words, “Cruising Bourbon Street” link to something.

1.
Open the image we've been working on in ImageReady. You may have it open already.

2.
Using the Slice Select tool, select the slice with the words, “Masquerading in New Orleans.”

3.
Then click on the Image Map Select tool and hold it down to select the rectangular Image Map tool (see Figure 7-27).

4.
Draw a bounding box around the words, “Cruising Bourbon Street” (see Figure 7-28).

5.
In the dialog box below, click on the Image Map tab.

6.
Type a URL in the dialog box.

7.
From the top menu bar, select Save Optimized As.

8.
Determine a name for the file and a location on your hard drive.

9.
Click Save.

10.
Find the document on your hard drive and drop it on a Web browser.

11.
Notice when you roll your cursor over the words, “Cruising Bourbon Street,” it becomes a hyperlink.
