Chapter 7. The Art of the Cut > Preparing Your Image for the Cut

Preparing Your Image for the Cut

There are several methods of cutting up your image using Photoshop. The best one is by using the guidelines and slicing tool. As a reminder, guides live a secret and peaceful life in the ruler surrounding your image. They lend themselves out to designers to help us make our day a little easier. If you don't see the ruler, go to the top menu bar and select View>Show Rulers. To create guides, first go to the top menu bar and select View>Show Guides. If you see Hide Guides, that means you are already set up to use the guidelines. While using any of the tools in the palette, bring your cursor to the ruler bar and the cursor will turn into a pointer (see Figure 7-3). Click and drag a guideline into your image. The guideline default color is blue. Unless you've changed your defaults, that's what you'll see.
