Why You Need to Cut Up Your Image

Let's say you have a image that is approximately 600 x 480 pixels, such as our online fashion magazine, StichStyle's Home page (see Figure 7-1). The entire graphic is 844K in size and entirely too large to put up as is, even if we could. As you learned earlier, we will need to create a much more compressed version of this image. We'll either use a GIF, JPEG compression, or a combination of both. One of the ways to speed up the download of a page is to create many smaller images from the one big one.
