Chapter 6. Making Images Web-Ready > Speedy Web Previews

Speedy Web Previews

We're going to use another feature of the Save For Web dialog box, the 2-up and 4-up feature. This allows you to compare the same image, one compressed with GIF and the other with JPEG. Or you can put up several degrees of JPEG settings and check them out side-by-side.

1.
Open the Home page graphic again.

2.
From the top menu bar select File>Save For Web.

3.
The Save For Web dialog box will show (see Figure 6-21). Click the 2-up tab at the top left.

4.
You will see the original image on the left and the optimized image on the right.

5.
Let's get fancier. We want to do direct comparisons. Click the 4-up tab.

6.
You now have four images with the first one being the original (see Figure 6-22).

7.
Now click in each window and do the styles settings in the right as we've just done. Set one as GIF and set one as JPEG low and one as JPEG high just to see what it looks like.

8.
Play around with the settings and pick the one you want.

9.
Click OK.
