Selecting and Modifying Selections

In almost every Photoshop project, you'll need to make selections. Selections are just what they sound like. You can choose all or parts of any image you create. You'll need to do this to make selections in order to use a filter or just remove the background from an image. There are many different types of selections. You can use the Rectangular Marquee tool, Elliptical Marquee tool, Single Column Marquee, Single Row Marquee tool, Fixed Size Marquee tool, the Lasso tool, Polygonal Lasso tool, Magnetic Polygonal Lasso tool and the Magic Wand tool.

Marquee Tools

Each of the Marquee tools has a specific job in the selection process. The Marquee tool contains all the options for using the marquee. By holding your cursor down over the tool, you will see four options (see Figure 2-27). In order, they are the Rectangular Marquee Tool, Elliptical Marquee Tool, Single Row Marquee Tool, and Single Column Marquee Tool.
