Fudging by Smudging

Often, you can't achieve perfect results unless you have a long time to play with the image and try some different things. But since we only have four hours to get this image to the StichStyle Web site, we can get near-perfect results with smudging.

1.
Select the Smudge tool (see Figure 3-12).

Figure 3-12. The Smudge tool

2.
Make a copy of the original layer (you've heard this before).

3.
Zoom up on the recently cloned sweater rip.

4.
Position the smudge tool on the border between the two areas of the sweater image that were cloned and the original sweater

5.
Select a brush from the Options menu. Make sure the brush is small and fuzzy.

6.
Move your brush from side to side. See what happens? It really does smudge. For this task, we won't need to smudge very much at all. Just run your mouse over the connecting areas as if you're stitching it. Make a short, quick line. Then lift up your mouse button and make another one.

7.
The celebrity supermodel now has a sweater without a rip in it.

8.
Save your work.

9.
Use the layer eyeball to turn on the original so you can see the progress you've made.
