Creating Duotones—Adding Color to Black & White Images

Just as the day was starting to shape up, the Director of Marketing came in and very loudly exclaimed, “After my wife's Faux Furniture Finishing class at the adult education center last night, she stepped into the beginning desktop publishing class. She told me you should never mix black and white and color photographs. So I want you to go into the photo gallery section and either take out all the black and white photos or do something else with them.”

Never one to doubt the information gleaned from such valued sources, you set about figuring out how to add some color where there is none. This is a simple process. You are going to create a duotone. A duotone is just what it sounds like, two tones. Same with the tritone and quadtone which are all accomplished through the same process. We'll use the image we just finished fixing the pin on.
