Chapter 34. Taking Stock of the Technologies You Have

Whether you realize it or not, you have been adapting to new technologies over a long time—years, in fact. This means that many of them have become such an integral part of your life that you may not even be aware of how much of your time and behavior is dictated by their use.

To get an accurate idea of how much technology surrounds you, divide a sheet of paper into two columns (or make a photocopy of the table below), then walk around your home and jot down each type of technology you find. If you have more than one of some items (for example, more than one television set, desktop computer, and phone, plus high-tech kitchen appliances), add a third column, labeled “Quantity.”
