One of the most effective ways to reduce paper pile-ups is simply to put a stop to disposable incoming. This includes everything you receive on paper that you regard as junk, defined as anything you toss, shred, recycle—that is, dump—almost as soon as you get it.

As with keeping spam out of your e-mail in-box, the idea of permanently and completely emptying your postal mailbox of junk is too much to hope for. But you are not entirely at the mercy of marketers either. You can significantly reduce the amount of junk mail you get now and in the future by making a consistent effort.
