If you were planning to read this section at the same time you were going to catch up on the news on CNN, do yourself a favor: Turn off the TV and tune in here. Of course you are time-crunched, so you may think you have no choice but to get the information you need here at the same time you try to keep up with world events. But the truth is, if you try to do both, you will remember little of either. And that is the important point of this part: to open your eyes to the truth about multi-tasking.

In the past, people used to say, “She can’t walk and chew gum at the same time” to describe someone who was not “smart enough” to be able to do more than one thing at a time. And you got the message, loud and clear: To succeed, you have to be able to juggle tasks—“to keep all the balls in the air.”
