Chapter 18. Sorting the Information to Keep

Not only do people not use most of the information they gather, but they also spend approximately 150 hours a year looking for misplaced information they do need. If you do not use most of what you gather, then cannot find the information you do need, it is no wonder you are slowly, or rapidly, losing control.

Besides filtering incoming data, you also need ways to sort and store the information you do want and need. This part covers specific sort-and-store strategies for e-mail and paper. But for filtering purposes, you should ask four simple questions for every piece of information you handle:
